Apple & Brie Grilled Cheese
Apple & Brie Grilled Cheese
Yield: 2 Sandwiches
I love a little experimental moment, and that’s how this was born. My wife loves grilled cheese just the simple American cheese kind. This is a combo from both of us and an elevated combo at that. Its sweet, savory, cheesy, all on a beautiful sourdough.
Ingredients
- 4 Slices Sourdough Bread
- 4 Slices Applewood Smoked Ham
- 1 Honey-crisp Apple
- Brie Cheese
- Cheddar Cheese (sliced or finely grated) (finely grated melts better)
- Jam or Marmalade (I used Raspberry Rose on these and a Spiced Orange on another)
- Arugula
- Salted Butter
Instructions
- Thinly slice the apple using a mandolin
- Slice enough Brie to cover the slice of bread
- Finely grate the cheddar and set aside
- Start with a slice of bread, then layer brie
- Place sliced apples on top of the brie
- Layer 2 slices of ham atop the apples
- Spread the jam or marmalade on top of the ham
- On the remaining slice of bread, place the cheddar on top
- Heat a medium size pan with medium heat
- Add butter to the pan until melted
- Add each slice of bread to the pan and begin to grill (do not sandwich together yet)
- Once the cheddar is melted, then place on top of the other slice with all the fixings (I recommend using a weighted press during this stage)
- Flip and allow just a final melt and cook
- Remove from the pan and on the plate or a cutting board, open the sandwich up, and add the arugula (I do this to prevent the arugula from cooking and wilting)
- Slice in half and enjoy!
